Soft Look For
Corks And Curls

By Chris Donart
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

The yearbook staff will tomorrow
begin distributing copies of the 1970-71
Corks and Curls, a soft-cover break from
the traditional yearbook style.

Barry Leader, editor-in-chief of Corks
and Curls, said the new format is an
attempt to give the yearbook a general
appeal. He explained that the book is not
designed to picture everyone but to evoke
an emotion with which each person could
identify.

This year's issue will cover activities from
last spring and will include color photographs
of the strike. Sports events through mid-April
will be pictured. Mr. Leader said that fraternity
pictures and commentary are more original this
year.

There is much more copy in this issue than
in past yearbooks, Mr. Leader said Creative
writing has replaced group pictures, of which
there are none.

He added that he hoped the new format
would interest those first-year students who felt
that they had been "misled" into buying a
subscription at the beginning of the year.

Copies of the yearbook will be distributed
from 2 to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Friday in
Newcomb Hall. During reading days, the books
will be available from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday
through Friday in Room 4B, Newcomb Hall.

One of the reasons for the lateness of the
issue, which is being distributed two or three
weeks later than usual, is the failure of 600 to
700 subscribers to pay for their issues, Mr.
Leader stated.
