A caravan of protesters will depart from
University Hall parking lot at 7 a.m. this
Saturday for the Anti-War Rally in Washington,
D.C. Those people interested in obtaining a ride
should be at University Hall at 6:45 a.m.

The caravan will follow U.S. 29 through
Culpeper, Warrenton, and on into Washington.
There will be a link-up of cars from various
parts of the state traveling along Route 29 to
Washington. The automobile caravan will arrive
in Washington in time for the scheduled 11 a.m.
march.

The march is being billed as the largest
anti-war rally in the history of the United
States. Sponsored by the National Peace
Action Coalition and the Peoples Coalition for
Peace and Justice, the massive anti-war protest
is designed to be nonviolent at all times.

Assembling at the Ellipse at 11 a.m., the
march will proceed to E Street at 12 a.m. and
then to Pennsylvania Avenue. The marchers will
head down Pennsylvania Avenue past the White
House to the Capitol, where a rally will be held
on the west front lawn of the Capitol. A permit
has been obtained to allow the protesters to
assemble peacefully and legally.

At the rally, 31 speakers of various
backgrounds and ideologies will address the
assembled group. Several of those speaking are
nationally known figures, including Ralph
Abernathy executive director of the Southern
Christian Leadership Conference; David
Dellinger, coordinator of the Peoples Coalition
for Peace and Justice; Coretta Scott King, wife
of the late Martin Luther King, Jr.; and George
Wald, a professor at Harvard and a Nobel
laureate.

Entertainment will be provided between
speeches by folk singer Pete Seeger, the rock
group Country Joe, the Washington, D.C., cast
of Hair, and Richie Havens, who performed
recently at the University.

At the conclusion of the day's events the
protesters will either depart from the Nation's
capital or remain through May 5 for the
scheduled "Mayday" protest.

Free babysitting service will be provided for
participants in the rally at Westminster
Presbyterian Church on Rugby Road, beginning
at 7 a.m.
