Froines Blasts Nixon On Viet War

By Jim Massey
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

John Froines, anti-war leader, Chicago Seven
defendant and a former university professor,
discussed philosophy, strategy and plans for the
anti-war movement's actions this spring to a
crowd of four hundred last Thursday night.

Charging the government of the United
States with waging a genocidal war on the
Vietnamese people. Mr. Froines declared that
"if the government doesn't stop the war, the
people will stop the government."

Charges Genocide

The former chemistry professor charged the
United States government with a policy of
'genocide' through the use of "defoliants, B-52
saturation bombing, the Operation Phoenix
assassination program, war-induced
urbanization and the chemical poisoning of
land and people."

"Fifty percent of all Vietnamese children
are born dead or deformed," he said. He stated
that this is caused by embryo deforming drugs
that are included in defoliants and various
chemical bombs.

Answering the assertion from the White
House that the United States is winding down
its involvement in Indochina, Mr. Froines said
"Replacing men with technology gives the
illusion that you are winding down the war.
Nixon is not winding down the war, he is
winding down the anti-war movement."

Spring Offensive

Demonstrations for this spring will include
'Dewey Canyon III' on April 19, when 5,000 to
10,000 veterans will camp out on the Mall, and
a massive anti-war demonstration on April 24.
Also scheduled is a 'peoples' camp out starting
April 25 in "Algonquin Peace City," formally
known as Rock Creek Park.

'Civil Disobedience'

On May 3 a 'massive civil disobedience'
plans to close down 14th Street Bridge, Shirley
Highway, DuPont Circle and the Pentagon.

"We must go into this in a more serious,
militant, committed way than we have ever
done," he said. "Anybody who is into
'trashing,' stay home."
