Candidates To Hold Open Forum
The student electorate will have an
opportunity to hear candidates for the
office of College President discuss
campaign issues at an open forum
Thursday.
The purpose of the forum is "to
provide a better means of bringing the
campaigns for College President" to the
first-year students and the upperclass
residents in the Alderman Road
dormitories.
Members of the Alderman Legislative
Council, which is sponsoring the activity,
have expressed the opinion that since there are
seven candidates for president this year,
campaigning through the dormitories might be
difficult and might dilute interest in the
election. The forum is intended to "bring out
the issues," and to increase the exposure of the
candidates."
The seven candidates for president are Tom
Bagby, Michael Capobianco, Alan Featherstone,
Kip Klein, Chris Mallis, Gerald Lientz, and Bob
Proutt.
The panel of questioners will tentatively be
composed of Tom Adams, Editor-in-chief of
The Cavalier Daily, Alan Barringer, Resident
Advisor in Humphreys, Steve Brickman,
Chairman of Counselors, Jeff Kirsch, President
of the Virginia Progressive Party, Quinn Spitzer,
President of the Jefferson Party, Joan Williams,
Senior Counselor in Mary Munford, and the
discussion will be moderated by Dick Hickman,
president of the Alderman Council.
Each of the candidates will present a speech
for 3-5 minutes, followed by a question and
answer period.
