Second Semester Offers Quality Cinema

An overwhelming number of excellent
films are scheduled for this semester,
enough to satisfy any appreciator of good
cinema in the University community.

The local film bargain continues to be
the Filmwatcher's Club, which has
weekly screenings on Wednesdays at
4:30, 7:00 and 9:00 in the auditorium of
Wilson Hall. Admission is by season ticket only,
$6.00 for students and $7.00 for others, which
are available at the door, at Newcomb Hall
Main Desk, Mincer's, or the Department of
Speech and Drama.

The total number of showings this semester
is fourteen, which comes out to about 50 cents
a showing. Some of the films for this semester
include Renais LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD
on March 3; Bergman's SHAME on March 24;
Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI on April 14; and
on May 12 an "Underground" Program
including films by Kenneth Anger and Stan
Brakhage.

The Thursday and Sunday Night Film Series
sponsored by the University Union also have
some excellent film schedules, especially the
Sunday shows. Admission for these shows is 75
cents; complete schedules are available in the
racks beside the Newcomb Hall Desk. The
screenings are in Newcomb Hall Ballroom at
7:00 and 9:00, although individual films may
start at 9:30.

Some of the Thursday night shows are
BLACK ROOTS and STAGOLEE, including a
conversation with Bobby Scale in prison, on
March 18; IN COLD BLOOD, March 18;
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, described as
"The dead come alive to cat the living" (?) on
March 25; and A MAN AND A WOMAN, May
6.

The Sunday Series has scheduled such films
as Hitchcock's THE BIRDS, February 14;
Truffant's SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER,
February 28; Fellini's LA DOLCE VITA, March
7; and ELVIRA MADIGAN, April 25. On May
9, CAMELOT will play.

Besides these series, filmwatchers should
watch for notices of festivals and special
showings presented by the Film Union and
other groups, including a forthcoming showing
of FRANKENSTEIN.
