NASA Director For Aeronautics
Speaks On Transportation Needs

Transportation needs in the next
decade will be the topic of discussion at
the meeting of the American Institute of
Aeronautics and Astronautics student
branch at the University.

Laurence K. Loftin Jr., director for
aeronautics at the National aeronautics
and Space Administration's Langley
Research Center, will discuss
"Aeronautical Vehicles: 1970 and
Beyond."

Mr. Loftin, who received his bachelor of
science in mechanical engineering from the
University, directs Langley's flight research in
subsonic, supersonic and hypersonic speeds and
the development of vertical and short
takeoff-landing vehicles.

Recognized as an authority on aircraft
aerodynamics, he has written more than 30
NASA technical reports and has received two
awards from NASA.

The lecture, which is open to the public,
begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the
aero-mechanical building of the School of
Engineering and Applied Science.
