SCLC Chooses
New Officers

In their meeting last Thursday, the
Student Civil Liberties Committee of the
Central Virginia American Civil Liberties
Union, elected Jack Young as Board
Representative and urged the passing of
the Union of University Student's referendum.

Other students elected as officers were
George Monti, Treasurer, and Barbara
Howard, Secretary. The three standing
committees for Court Watching, Student
Rights, and Membership and Publicity were also
set up.

According to the statement issued by the
Student Civil Liberties Committee favoring the
Union of University Student's referendum, "we
find that many of the rules contained in the
student code of conduct are vague and constitute
prior restraint of first amendment freedoms.

"We fear that these rules will be enforced
selectively especially to contain those who
express unpopular opinions.
