The Institute of International Education
opened competition this month
for grants in graduate study or research
abroad and for professional training in
the creative and performing arts.

Application forms and information for
interested students may be obtained from
Robert T. Denomme, The University Fulbright
Adviser.

Candidates who wish to apply for an award
must be American citizens at the time of
application, have a bachelor's degree or its
equivalent and in most cases be proficient in
the language of the host country.

Preference is given to applicants between the
ages of 20 and 35 and to candidates who have
not had prior opportunity for extended study
abroad.

Two types of grants will be available under
the Fulbright-Hays Act: U.S. Government Full
Grants and U.S. Government Travel Grants.

A full award will provide a grantee with
tuition, maintenance for one academic year in
one country, transportation, insurance and an
accidental allowance.

Also, announced were the Kansas City
Poetry Contests. Full-time undergraduate
students in the United States are eligible for
one of six $100 prizes to be awarded for a
single poem by Hallmark Cards, Inc. one of
four contest sponsors.

Other prizes include a $500 advance on
royalties for a book-length poetry manuscript
from the Devins Award Foundation and $100
awards for single poems given by The Kansas
City Star.

Entries must be postmarked by February 1,
1971. Winners will be announced by April 26.
All entries are judged anonymously. For
complete rules, send a self-addressed, stamped
enveloped to: Kansas City Poetry Contests,
