Parties Select
SC Candidates

In conventions held last week, both
the Jefferson Party and the Virginia
Progressive Party nominated a slate of
candidates to run for the six open seats
from the College on the Student Council.

An overflowing turnout of 170
students attended the Jefferson Party
convention, and passed a motion to base
its campaign on the lack of Student
Council communication with the
students.

Nominees for Council from the JP
include Bobby Lee Cook, Alen Freeman,
Gordon Heyworth, Joe Sperling, Larry
Williams, Ashley Wills, and Scott Stephens, who
is running for the short term seat left vacant by
the election of Kevin Mannix to President.

In the VPP convention, students present
elected new officers to serve the Party, and also
endorsed six students to run for Council seats.

VPP officers for the next term include Jeff
Krisch, President, Andrew Potler, Vice
President, Chuck Arnold, Secretary, and Mike
Flock, Treasurer.

Nominees from the VPP are Willie Ivey, who
will seek to win the short term seat, Tom
Collier, Doug Bain, Jim Reibel, Kip Thompson,
Pete Daly, and Virginia Scott, who will
campaign for the six full term seats on the
Student Council. Also endorsed from the
Nursing School is Linda Martin.

The Student Council elections will be held on
May 13 and 14.
