Student Competition Begins
For Counseling Positions
A meeting for all prospective candidates
for counselor positions will be held
tomorrow night at 7 in Gilmer Hall.
At the meeting, Chairman of Counselors
Bruce Wine and Paul Hurdle will familiarize the
students with the procedures for applying and
explain the responsibilities and rewards of being
a dormitory counselor.
All students interested in joining the
counseling program are urged to attend this
first meeting. The application forms will be
handed out at this time. The deadline for
turning in applications is February 19.
All applications are to be turned in to the
Housing Office in Page House. All male
students, including graduate students, may
apply.
"Since there is always a large number of
applicants interested in the program and there
is only a limited number of positions available,
a student should think seriously about the
responsibilities he will be undertaking," according
to Mr. Wine.
Students who do apply to the counseling
program must take a test February 18 at 9:30
p.m. in Gilmer Hall. The test is to indicate the
candidates' "critical thinking and knowledge of
the University."
The test will only be given once this year.
Anyone who cannot make it at the designated
time should get in touch with Mr. Wine prior to
the testing date.
When handing in the application forms to
the Housing Office, students will sign up for
personal interviews with a group of four
counselors. The interviews will be held
February 23 through 27.
After the ratings from the interviews are
turned in, the Committee on Counselors will
make the final decision using these results plus
the students' grade point averages. They will
announce the results before spring break
according to Mr. Wine.
All present counselors are required to attend
a meeting tonight at 9 in the South Meeting
Room of Newcomb Hall.
Those counselors who are reapplying must
have their blanks in the Housing Office by
February 9. This year all counselors reapplying
will have to submit an essay evaluating their
own strengths and weaknesses.
A separate counseling program for the coeds
that will be at the University next year is still in
the organizational stage.
