Union Withholds
Concert Rebate

The Program Board of the University
Union decided last night not to give a
rebate on the concert last Saturday
evening that was supposed to have a
performance by the Buddy Miles Express.

According to Tracy Schwarzschild,
vice-president of the Union, the group's
agent told him that Buddy Miles had contracted
hepatitis Saturday morning and sent a telegram
to the Union informing them that he would not
be appearing. The University Union did not
receive the telegram until Monday.

The agent said that the disease was a "thing
that might last 48 hours or longer." the Union
is investigating legal action that can be taken
against the group for failing to appear.

But an "Act of God" clause that is standard
for such contracts allows performers to back
out of a concert for a number of causes, of
which disease is one.

Mr. Schwarzschild said that the Union had
decided to use the $2,500 it was to pay Buddy
Miles to reduce ticket prices on the next
concert it gives, in December.

University Union President George Brown
said that the rebate for each ticket would have
only been about 33 cents.

Mr. Brown also noted that even though
people buying tickets to the concert at the gate
were told that Buddy Miles would not be
appearing, gate sales were higher than for any
other concert ever given by the Union.

Mr. Brown said that he was disappointed
with aspects of the concert. He said, however,
that the money from the concert was not being
"pocketed" by Union members.
