Awards Program Honors
Employees' Long Service

Two hundred and fourteen
employees, representing a total of
3,345 years of service, will be
honored by the University at its
annual service award program this
afternoon.

University President Edgar F.
Shannon, Jr. will present special
25-year pins at the 3 p.m. program
in Newcomb Hall ballroom. Other
employees will receive their certificates
and pins or buttons from their
respective department heads.

Paul Saunier Jr., director of
University relations, will speak to
the recipients and their guests on
"The Sesquicentennial, a Time to
Look at the Past and the Future."

Seventeen persons will be recognized
for 25 years of service: Mary
L. Bersch, Bureau of Population
and Economic Research; Lester
Brown, Children's Rehabilitation
Center; Helen R. Bruce, radiology;
Ernest L. Chisholm, buildings and
grounds; Ann A. Cloud, Alderman
Library; Fannie M. Elliot, Alderman
Library; Sara K. Gilliam,
Bureau of Population and Economic
Research; Dixie V. Golladay, chemistry.

Rebecca S. Goodwyn, housekeeping;
Mary G. Hurlburt, radiology;
Gussie P. Jackson, nursing
service; Martha A. Kase, School of
General Studies; Linda R. Kite,
nursing service; Barbara S. Marshall,
internal medicine; William R.
Travis, printing office; Joseph
Washington, subsidiary nursing personnel;
and Thomas E. Woodfolk,
subsidiary nursing personnel, will
also be cited.

One employee will be recognized
for 45 years of service to the
University. He is Charlie Johnson of
the buildings and grounds department.

Four have served for 40 years.
They are Lewis Bryant, dietary;
Russell Burton, subsidiary nursing
personnel; Wilmer F. Jackson,
anatomy; and Hazel Key, law
library.

Mamie Marshall, housekeeping,
will be cited for 35 years of service.

Thirty-year awards will go to
Lee W. Chambliss, Seward Forest;
Douglas F. Gibson, heating plant;
Jean M. Holliday, school of engineering,
William H. Nicholson,
Seward Forest; Blanche T. Reitz,
clinical laboratory; Walter L. Smith,
subsidiary nursing personnel; William
A. Smith, pharmacy; and
Louise T. Thurston, printing office.

Other employees will be recognized
for 20, 15, and 10 years of
service to the University..
