Fraternity Man
Picked UP Head

For the first time in its history,
the University Party has chosen a
fraternity man for its highest
position.

Michael Erwin, a third-year
member of Delta Sigma Phi social
fraternity was elected president by
the political party's membership at
its Wednesday night meeting.
Observers saw Mr. Erwin's victory
as an indication that the party has
grown out of a membership which
was basically independent.

At the same time, Stefan
Lopatkiewicz was chosen as the
organization's vice-president. Also
elected were Bob Ritter, as the new
secretary, and Mike Russel, as
treasurer.

In accepting the presidency, Mr.
Erwin described as the primary
concern of the University Party its
need to work continuously to aid in
the realization of student and
community interests, rather than to
become active only during
elections.

At the meeting, the party's
membership also adopted a
resolution "in support of the
efforts of the Government and
foreign affairs majors to abolish
comprehensive examinations
immediately."
