University ACLU Chooses Delegate Today

A student representative to the
board of directors of the Central
Virginia American Civil
Liberties Union will be chosen
today by the University student
chapter at 4:15 in Room 3 of
the Law School. Two alternates
will also be selected.

Plans to employ full time
legal counsel for Virginia's
ACLU efforts will be publicized
at the meeting. Developments
in the formation of other ACLU
chapters in the state will be commented
on.

An advisory committee will
be named to encourage increased
student recognition of civil liberties.

Charlottesville's chapter was
formed about a year ago, the
first in Virginia. Nearly one-third
of the more than 200
members are students.

Last year the central Virginia
chapter was visited by Philip
Hirschkof, ACLU counsel who
successfully argued before the
Supreme Court the Loving case,
in which Virginia's ban on interracial
marriage was struck
down.
