Economics Study
Economics Profs. Kenneth
G. Elzinga and William L. Breit
have co-authored what may be
the first economic studies
(using diagrams and
cost-benefit analysis) to appear
in the prestigious Harvard Law
Review.
The article, entitled
"Anti-trust Penalties and
Attitudes Toward Risk: an
Economic Analysis," proposes
abolishing all anti-trust
penalties except for a specific
mandatory fine of 25 per cent
of pre-tax corporate profits.
Existing penalties include
breaking up monopolistic
companies and prison terms.
The study also revealed that
American businessmen are
adverse to taking risks.
"The appearance of an
economic study in the review
indicates the enormous inroads
that economic theory is
making into law," Mr. Elzinga
stated.
