Author, Screenwriter Garrett Returns
To Show Frankenstein, Spacemonster Film

George P. Garrett, former
writer-in-residence at the
University and author of the
bestselling novel, "Death of the
Fox," will highlight a literary
and movie festival this
weekend.

Mr. Garrett taught at the
University from 1962 to 1967.
He is currently the
writer-in-residence at the
University of South Carolina.

The festival, dubbed the
"The Return of the Mull People
Festival" will be initiated
Friday at 8 p.m. in Alderman
Library's Rare Book Room,
when Mr. Garrett will read
selections from his new novel,
"The Magic Striptease."

The second major event of
the festival will be a showing of
the film, "Frankenstein Meets
the Space Monster" at 8 p.m.
Saturday in Wilson Hall. Mr.
Garrett wrote the screenplay
for the movie while living in
Charlottesville and many of the
characters are named after
people at the University.

Best Selling Author George P. Garrett

He was aided in the writing
by several colleagues and
students who are collectively
known as the "Mull people,"
some of whom will also take
part in this weekend's affair.

Mr. Garrett grew up in
Orlando, Florida and attended
Princeton University. He has
taught at Rice University,
Hollins College and Weslyan.

The festival is open to the
public. The reading Friday is
free of charge and the movie
showing will cost 50 cents. The
weekend is sponsored by the
University Union and The
Cavalier Daily.
