Michael Enters Lt. Gov. Race
State Senator J. Harry
Michael Jr. of Charlottesville
has announced that he will
enter the Democratic primary
election for state Lieutenant
Governor.
"Those of us who have
served in the General Assembly
feel at home," Mr. Michael said
last week. He said he was
entering the race in an effort to
aid other Democratic
candidates seeking election to
the General Assembly this
year, and to "provide the
Commonwealth with a choice
for each of the state-wide
elective offices."
'Rendezvous'
Student Council will
sponsor "Rendezvous," a series
of activities celebrating
Founder's Day, Friday.
Council members will hold
a public reception on the Old
Cabell Hall steps from 2 to 5
p.m. Refreshments will be
served.
Student activities will be
displayed in the foyer of Old
Cabell Hall. Two historical
films will be shown in Wilson
Hall Auditorium: Kenneth
Clark's "The Smile of Reason"
at 2 and 4 p.m. and
"Jefferson's Buildings on the
Lawn" at 3 and 5 p.m.
All student groups are
invited to present displays.

Barrett Speaks
Board of Visitors member C.
Walter Barrett will speak on
"The Struggle to Create a
University" in the ceremonies
in Cabell Hall Friday morning
following the traditional
academic procession of
students and faculty members
from the Rotunda.
The procession down the
Lawn will begin at 10:15 a.m.
with the convocation
scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
The Founder's Day
convocation will include the
presentation of the Thomas
Jefferson Award recognizing an
outstanding member of the
University community, and the
"Z" Society Award to an
outstanding teacher.
'Black Odyssey'
The Virginia State College
Gospel Ensemble and 'Black
Odyssey' performing artists
will present a program of music
and poetry Wednesday night at
8 in Old Cabell Hall
Auditorium.
The newly formed groups
are described as a "montage of
black contemporary images"
and "an exploration into the
minds of Black Americans of
today."
The program is sponsored
by the University Union and is
open to the public at a charge
of 50 cents.
Committee Positions
The deadline for
applications to University
administrative committees has
been extended to Wed., April
18. Application forms are
available in Council offices and
at the Newcomb Hall Main
Desk and should be returned to
the same places.
