News-In-Brief
Foosball Champs
Third-year man Eric Harris
and his partner Bertrand
Dumont of Charlottesville
walked away Sunday with the
$100 first prize in the Foosball
America "Foosball
Tournament".
Mr. Harris and Mr. Dumont
won three matches to beat out
10 other two-man teams in the
contest held in the Maury
Ave. Foosball palace.
Corrigan Correction
Athletic Director Eugene F.
Corrigan called for an increase
in the student athletic fee at
the Student Council meeting
Tuesday night. In a headline
yesterday, The Cavalier Daily
erroneously reported that Mr.
Corrigan asked for an increased
student activities fee.
The article also erroneously
reported that Council would
not endorse this request.
Council President Jim Rinaca
and Vice President Larry
Sabato are both opposed to the
request, but a vote of Council
has not yet been taken.
However, Mr. Sabato feels
that women's sports should
receive more money. He said
that a larger amount should be
allocated to women's and club
sports from the student
activities fund, and that the
Athletic Department should
likewise increase their funding
of women's and club sports.
Mr. Sabato said that
although an increase in funding
is necessary, this should not
come from an increase in the
mandatory athletic fee.
Women's sports as a whole
have not seen a 370 percent
increase in funding, as reported
in the article. The average
increase is 90 percent. Only
field hockey has seen a 370 per
cent allocation increase.
