During Christmas Vacation

By LIBBY WITHERS

An estimated $5000 worth
of goods were stolen from the
Sigma Pi fraternity house last
week in a series of robberies at
student apartments and
fraternity houses during the
Christmas holiday.

Sigma Pi, located at 1533
Virginia Ave., was robbed of a
stereo tape deck, several items
of jewelry, and approximately
$25 cash.

Apartment Break-In

Police officers found the
door open and articles taken
from the kitchen last week, but
were unable to do anything
until students returned
yesterday.

A break-in occurred at the
apartment of third-year Law
student William J. McNally III
at 602 Cabell Ave. A tape
recorder, record changer, two
speakers and an amplifier
valued at $2225 were taken.

Jefferson Park Thefts

Similar robberies occurred
at 1800 and 2100 Jefferson
Park Avenue. Patrick J. Keany
Jr., second year College
student of 2100 JPA lost $600
worth of amplifiers, speakers
and a TV. Third year
Engineering tudent Michael D.
Ashton was robbed of 225
long-playing records valued at
$1350.

A break-in at the Phi
Gamma Delta fraternity house
on Madison Lane was not
reported to the police. Rooms
were left open, but nothing
was stolen.

Lt. James Hayden of the
Charlottesville Police Dept. said
that no suspects have been
found. He commented that the
University "is usually hit with
a rash of these break-ins during
a break."
