Squire Plea Delayed

Charlottesville Corporation
Court Judge George M. Coles
yesterday postponed a hearing
to consider suspending Steve
Squire's sentence for his part in
anti-war demonstrations at a
University ROTC parade last
April.

The motion filed by
Defense Attorney John A.C.
Lowe will be considered Nov.
15 at 2 p.m. in the Corporation
Court. The Defense is asking
the court to suspend Mr.
Squire's sentence of four
months in jail and $600 fine
pending an appeal to the
Virginia Supreme Court.

Mr. Squire was convicted
last Friday.

A property bond of $1,000
was set by Judge Coles pending
the hearing.

March Against Hunger

A fifteen-mile march against
hunger, Saturday, Oct. 21, will
aim to raise $10,000 through
local sponsors paying a given
amount per mile covered by
each marcher.

Sponsored by CROP, an
association of the Community
Hunger Appeal of the Church
World Service, the march is
being organized by Rev.
Kenneth G. Carlson, pastor of
the Emmanuel Church.

The money will be
distributed to the Monticello
Area Community Action and
to CROP for its emergency
work and for the hungry in
India and Bangladesh.

All are encouraged to march
and should contact Rev.
Carlson at 295-4038 for
further information.

Experimental U.

The Experimental
University will meet tonight at
8:30 at 120 Chancellor St. and
welcomes interested students
with suggestions and assistance
for future projects.

Z Scholarships

Four college students were
recently selected as recipients
of Z Society Book
Scholarships. Each student
received $50.

A letter sent to the
recipients informed them that
selection was made "on the
basis of three factors;
recommendations as to the
immediate need of the funds, a
demonstration of a strong
moral character, and evidence
of concern with as well as
contribution to the University
community at large."

Hermens To Speak

Professor Ferdinand
Hermens will speak on
"Woodrow Wilson's Political
Concepts and Principles" in a
lecture today at 3:30 p.m.
in Newcomb Hall, the South
Meeting Room.

Professor Hermens has had a
distinguished career as an
educator and political scientist.
With a Ph.D. from Bonn
University, he has held
teaching posts at Catholic
