Council Filling Student Positions
On Administrative Committees

By LIBBY WITHERS
and LAURA HAMMEL

The University President's
56 administrative committees
are not filling student
positions, it was announced
yesterday.

Committee responsibilities
include researching as well as
voting on proposals in response
to requests for input by
University President Edgar F
Shannon Jr.

Second-year man Scott
Tollefsen, student coordinator
for the committees, said that
many students have written
him in advance requesting a
committee position.

"It is absolutely essential
that those students applying
for a position fill out and
return the official form," he
commented.

Applications, available at
the Newcomb Hall main desk
and at Student Council offices,
must be filled by April 13. A
student applying for more than
one committee position need
only fill out one form.

Students presently serving
on committees may reapply for
their positions, indicating prior
work on their application.

Over 1,000 applications
were submitted last year when
less than 200 committee
positions were available.

"We will try to make the
selection process as fair as
possible," Mr. Tollefsen said
"We do not anticipate giving
many students more than one
or two seats."

The importance of the
University committees can be
seen in the recent work of the
Future of the University
Committee and the Calendar
and Scheduling Committee.
