Sims To Direct Development Program

A. Ward Sims, assistant to the
president of the Michie Company, has
been appointed Director of University
Development.
Succeeding Richard L. Godine, who
died in November, Mr. Sims will conduct
the University development program
coordinating the activities of the
development office with those of other
University fund-raising organizations.
In making the appointment, Edwin M.
Crawford, vice-president for public
affairs, said, "Mr. Sims' experience in
banking and law and his participation in
business affairs in the community make
him well-suited for this important office
at the University."
Mr. Sims will assume his new position
Mar. 1.
Mr. Sims, who is 33, graduated from
the Law School in 1965. He served in
naval intelligence from 1960 to 1962 and
is a lieutenant commander in the Naval
Reserve.
A Morehead Scholar at the University
of North Carolina, he took his A.B.
degree in economics in 1960.
Mr. Sims received the
Charlottesville-Albemarle Jaycees
Distinguished Service Award in 1968 as
the outstanding young man of the year.
Last year, he served as local president of
the United Givers Fund.
He is a member of the Law School
Alumni Association, the Virginia State
Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, and the
American Bar Association.
