Arrested University Students Refuse Processing

By Parkes Brittain

Approximately twenty University
students were arrested Wednesday during
the civil disobedience disturbances staged
in Washington last week, according to
Ken Lewis, one of the coordinators for
the People's Coalition for Peace and
Justice.

Seven of these students refused at first
to be processed in order th show, as one
student said, that "we wouldn't
cooperate with the system." The group
consisted of fourth-year students Jim Heilman
and John Reinhardt; a third-year student Scott
Henggeler; a second-year student, John Hinkle;
and first year students Larry Lee, Mike Roche
and Kent Miller.

Also included in this group were two Mary
Washington students, Pat Forker and Jean
Ferris.

Processing after an arrest involves
finger-printing, mug shots and completion of an
official form which includes a statement of the
charges and personal data.

Many of those who at first refused to
undergo this procedure later consented after
civil contempt suits were threatened.

Other University students arrested
Wednesday include Chuck Wheeler, Frank
Hufford, Bill Armstrong, Steven Smith, Bruce
Aldrich, Conrad Gaardner, Steven Womer, Paul
Zintl, Mr. Lewis, and Karen Skidmore.

The students were arrested while sitting on
the steps of the Capitol listening to
Congressmen's speeches which were begun after
police announced that all in the area would be
arrested.

All of the students have been released on
bond.
