Porter Receives Teaching Award

Harry W. Porter Jr., associate professor
of landscape architecture at the University
has received an award for distinguished
teaching in architecture.

The $500 rotating award is presented
each year by the Virginia Chapter of the
American Institute of Architects and the
Virginia Foundation of Architectural Education
to a faculty member at one of
the State's three architecture schools.

The presentation is made to the faculty
member voted by students as most outstanding
on the basis of generating interest through
lively discussions and lectures, relating course
material to broader issues, encouraging critical
evaluation of ideas, having a good grasp of the
subject and presenting it in an organized
fashion, and showing personal concern for the
students.

Mr. Porter was presented the award at a
recent meeting of the Virginia chapter of AIA
in Charlottesville. It was the first Virginia
chapter meeting in which practicing architects,
faculty and students were involved.
