Election Draws Large Response
Despite Poor Weather Conditions

In spite of the miserable weather,
University students turned out yesterday
to vote in unusually large numbers
according to Kevin Mannix, Student
Council President.

Concerning the College specifically,
Mr. Mannix stated that usually only
about 2000 students will vote. During the
course of yesterday's voting, the Tuttle
House, Emmett Post Office, and Gilmer
Hall polling locations temporarily ran out
of ballots due to the unusually large
response.

Unfortunately there was a shortage of
poll watchers yesterday and ballots were not set
out at several polling places until rather late in
the morning. According to Mr. Mannix, the lack
of poll watchers will not cause any difficulty as
their purpose traditionally is not to ensure an
honest election but to encourage students to
vote and to see that sign-up sheets are signed.

The problem presented by the late opening
of polling places will be alleviated by the large
number of location available for a person to
vote and by the fact that the election is being
continued through today.

In addition to the elections of student
officers, students will also decide on the
referendum concerning the Standards of
Conduct. Copies of a petition calling for a
Federal investigation of the Kent State
indictments are also available at all polling
locations for interested students to sign.
