IFC Passes Motion
Cutting Pledge Period

By Dave Hall
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

After lengthy deliberation, the IFC
voted 22 to 8 Monday night in favor of
shortening the pledge period to one
semester.

This option, which will be left to the
discretion of the individual fraternities,
will go into effect next year. According
to the new ruling, pledges earning a 2.00
the first semester are eligible for initiation
the first week of April.

The informal approach to rush won a
decided victory even though last week's
proposed informal date of October 17 was not
approved. Modification of the earlier plan
resulted in a new function - the extended
lunch.

Under this program there will be informal
rush hours from lunch until dinner during the
first week of meals, October 13-15. Hopefully,
this will give interested rushees a relaxed
afternoon at the houses, and a better view of
actual fraternity life.

The upcoming Community Service
Committee Cancer Drive was the next order of
business. Fraternities are asked to notify the
IFC office or Bob Downer at P Lam house
before 4:00 Thursday whether or not they are
planning to participate in the April 25 drive in
order to implement organization of the drive.

A proposal moving the IFC Carnival up a
week to May 2 was made due to the present
conflict with May Weekend. Action will be
dictated by the fraternities' responsibility in
informing the IFC of their booth ideas.

IFC President Ted Foote congratulated the
fraternities on the almost eventless Easters
Weekend, describing it as the most successful in
several years.

Houses are asked to prompt their advisors as
to their meeting on April 28 at 7:30 in Alumni
Hall.
