Shorter Pledge Period
Proposed In IFC

A proposal shortening the pledge
period was made at the IFC meeting
Monday night.

If passed, this resolution would give
the fraternities the option next year of
initiating all pledges with a 2.00 during
the first week of April. Further discussion
on the proposal will come at next week's
meeting.

An informal day of rush highlighted
discussion as the tentative rush schedule
for fall 1970 was announced. On October
17, the date of our home football game against
Army, houses will be permitted to rush all day
with the restrictions of no meals, alcohol, or
paid entertainment.

The object of this new approach is to
promote a relaxed day of rush as opposed to
the otherwise hectic pace. In the past many
first year men have become disillusioned with
the tight competitive schedule of rush.

Fall rush has been set to last from
September 29 until November 8. The first two
weeks will host three smokers and a party, all
of which will be open. Meals start on October
12 and last until the 21st. During this period
there will be three lunches and seven dinners,
all by invitation. The informal day of rush will
punctuate this stage of rush.

Formal rush week starts November 1 and
lasts until Bld Sunday, November 8.

The next issue discussed was approval of a
preliminary fee of $15 per fraternity per big
weekend for a fraternal security system. The
program, to be drawn up by the governing
board and submitted to the council, would
provide protection over the whole of the
fraternity area.

The Committee on Fraternities election,
with two positions open, is to be held May 4,
followed a week later by the Governing Board
and Rush Board elections. There are two and
three positions open in these elections
respectively.

Successful completion of the Community
Service Project at Keswick was announced. The
project cleared an area for a playground for
underprivileged children.
