Faculty Abolishes
Environment Comps

Effective immediately, the Department
of Environmental Sciences has
eliminated the comprehensive examination
as an undergraduate degree requirement.

The change affects all juniors and seniors
presently enrolled in Geology and Geography.
A decision on whether to require a senior thesis
for next year will be made later in the spring.

Currently, there are no comprehensive
examinations required in the Departments of
History, English, Government, Mathematics,
Physics, Sociology and Anthropology, and
Psychology, as well as the Department of
Environmental Sciences.

The Department of Art has no comprehensive
examination, but has senior thesis and
seminar programs. The Department of Romance
Languages has a senior seminar with a
paper, with no comprehensive examination
required. The Department of Biology has
eliminated the exams, and will decide on their
replacement, if any, in meetings later this
semester.

Comprehensive examinations remain in the
Department of Economics, and for Astronomy
majors in the Department of Astronomy.
Astronomy-Physics majors in 1970 are not
required to take comprehensives.
