Leaflet Rules
Announced

As a result of the disturbance at the
Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre February 10.
D. Alan Williams. Vice President for
Student Affairs, has spelled out new
guidelines for the distribution of literature
and leaflets at University Union
sponsored events in University Hall

The new rules allow the distribution of
literature in the area from the entrance
doors to the ticket stiles, providing it is
done in a manner which does not disrupt
the event in progress, and does not physically
interfere with or harass those who are attending
the event. When possible, there will be tables
provided for such use.

The new rules also stipulate that in the event
of congestion in the lobby, the number of
persons distributing literature in the front of
the stiles may be limited to one person per
ticket line.

The revised rules of conduct also state that
the Dean of Student Affairs or other person
designated by the President, may ask any
students who engage in conduct that is
inconsistent with these provisions to leave.

James Roebuck, President of the Student
Council, felt that these rules formed a "good
policy" by which students should govern
themselves. Pointing out that these rules apply
out to University Union events, Mr. Roebuck
hoped that these provisions would serve as a
prelude to a code of conduct for all University
events.

Paul Saunier, Chairman of the Public Events
Committee, praised the rules, saying they
guarantee the rights of students to provide
literature to other students in public areas.
