Madison Hall Provides Tutors

Madison Hall, through its Office of
Volunteer Community Service, has begun
to provide assistance for the University
student with academic problems. All
students, but first and second-year
students in particular, may get the help of
a tutor in a variety of subjects. The tutors
are University students who have
volunteered to help.

The University Tutoring program is being
coordinated by James Hainer and Paul Rippey,
both students in the Graduate School of Arts
and Sciences. Students needing help should call
924-3193 or visit the office of the Volunteer
Community Service at Madison Hall.

Upon receiving an application of a student, a
tutor will be assigned by the Coordinators. The
student and the tutor will then meet at their
own convenience.

The tutor may elect to charge for his
services and the amount would depend upon
the agreement reached by the student and the
tutor. The financial resources of both the
student and the tutor will be considered, but
Madison Hall itself does not charge for its
referral service.

Madison Hall, which has been in a variety of
tutoring programs for elementary junior high
and high school students, considers the
University Tutoring program an important part
of its program. Paul deVries, the Director of the
Volunteer Community Services, explained that
"university tutoring will become an integral
part of Madison Hall's service to the University
community needs.
