3 Community Service Projects Open

Madison Hall, the official University
center for participation and involvement
in local community service, has opened
three new programs to assist the University
student in solving his own problems
or in donating his time to community
service projects.

The first of these programs is the
Office of Community Service. The
purpose of the program is to help direct
the efforts of students and faculty in
already existing service programs. The
office is now collecting the questionnaires
it sent out to those students who
indicated that they were interested in
doing community service during registration.
Once the questionnaires are completed,
the office will establish a file of
the students' interests and abilities.

When a service project needs volunteers, the
office will have the names of students who are
interested in doing such work. The office will
also be able to direct students who are
interested in doing such service to the
appropriate agency.

The office will also be helping to start
projects of its own. It will be organizing
students who are listed in their files in possible
service projects. The students and any interested
faculty members will then run the
project on their own with the office's help.

Projects that are either already being run by
local agencies or are being planned by the office
are hospital work, big brother programs,
tutoring programs and flood relief projects.

Another program being run by Madison Hall
is the Administrative Assistance Service, any
student needing advice in dealing with administrative
or 'judicial' bodies of the University
could go to the service for advise. Selected
students and faculty members at Madison Hall
would then advise the student of his rights and
responsibilities. If the student needed aid in
dealing with the agency, the service could aid
the student by dealing with the agency directly
or could advise the student how to deal with
the agency involved.

The third project being run by Madison Hall
is the Lawyer Referral Service. If a student
needed help in dealing with either civil or

criminal problems that he was having, the
