Prism Presents Program
Of Folk, Modern Music
For the final weekend of this
semester, the Prism Coffeehouse
will present a program of music,
both folk and modern.
Bill Brown, a University graduate,
will perform traditional and
contemporary folk music tonight.
Much of this material consists of
original compositions by himself
and his former roommate, Charlie
Jaunccon. In addition to Mr.
Brown, some guest sets featuring
local coffeehouse entertainers will
be provided.
Saturday night one of the most
successful acts of the semester will
be returning to the Coffeehouse
stage, when Bo Crawford and Chet
Blackistone of the Slithy Toves will
present their style of music, which
combines folk, blues, and jazz
elements.
The performances on both
nights will begin at 9:30 with a
cover charge of 50 cents. The
Xanadu Head Shop will remain
closed until the beginning of the
second semester.
The internal arrangement of the
coffeehouse has been altered with
the moving of the stage closer to
the center of the room. The change
was made in response to complaints
from both performers and
customers that the past
arrangement of the stage destroyed
the "coffeehouse atmosphere" of
the Prism.
The resent adjustments were
made by the steering committee in
an effort to allow the performers to
gain a greater rapport with the
listeners. The sound system has also
been altered and repaired to
increase the sound quality.
Sunday the Virginia Folklore
Guild will hold its third meeting at
3 p.m. Membership in the Guild is
still open to anyone who has
interest in Virginian, American, or
international folklore. The Guild is
considering holding a statewide folk
in the spring if
interest and
can be found also plan to
continue to publish state folklore
to record interesting and
unusual folk performers.
The Coffeehouse itself needs
workers to help out on weekends, a
spokesman said yesterday. There is
a nominal salary, free cokes and
coffee, and free passes for working.
Anyone interested can contact
Steve Biley or Tom Doran at the
Coffeehouse or talk to anyone on
the steering committee.
