Experimental U Plans Meeting
To Evaluate Initial Semester
First semester courses in the
Experimental University are
drawing to a close, and the co-ordinating
committee has organized a
meeting this evening at 9 p.m. in
the South Meeting Room of
Newcomb Hall to discuss the past
semester, and begin to prepare for a
second round of courses in the
spring.
Originally formed in early
November, the thirty one courses
offered have been meeting for nine
weeks. 400 people registered at the
outset, and as of the present, actual
figures of those who remained in
the courses have not been calculated.
The co-ordinating committee
expects that several courses will be
carried over. Theater games, which
drew the greatest response in the
fall is already scheduled for the
Spring, as hopefully will be the
courses on cinema and rock music
which were also well patronized.
Tonight's meeting will essentially
involve representing the idea
behind the experimental university,
and asking those present, and anyone
else who may be interested, to
submit courses ideas for the upcoming
set of seminars.
The end of the semester has also
brought about the beginning of an
evaluation of the experimental university
by the co-ordinating committee
in conjunction with the individual
group leaders. The evaluation
includes questions dealing
with original enrollment, final enrollment,
interest, whether books
or other materials were used, the
methodology of the instructor for
passing information, and any comments
that the instructor wishes
to make.
After tabulating these evaluation
forms, the co-ordinating committee
plans to publicize them for
the use of interested students or
faculty members.
Anyone who is interested in
leading a course, or who has ideas
for courses for the experimental
university are encouraged by the
members of the co-ordinating committee
to attend tonight's meeting.
Students or faculty members
who wish to participate in the
Experimental University, but
cannot attend the meeting should
contact either Kim Hopper, the
Chairman of the co-ordinating
committee or Bruce Wine.
