Robbers Raid ROTC Office,
Pilfer Pictures, Medallions
Smashing a display case and
stealing a collection of medals,
vandals ransacked exhibits and
bulletin boards of the Army ROTC
department in the basement of
Cabell Hall over the weekend
The display cases, which stood
in front of the department's
administrative offices, were 6 feet
tall glass-fronted cases containing
medals and citations on loan from
the Army. Medals on exhibit
ranged from a Congressional Medal
of Honor to the bronze star. Also
included was a medal awarded to a
member of the department.
The vandals also stole various
personnel assignments, company
rosters, and organizational charts. A
large 4 by 5 foot picture of the
Rotunda which was used by the
department as a background for
cadet photographs was taken.
In addition, the theft accounted
for a display of eighteen pictures of
University cadets in summer camp
training, taken when Deans Em and
Canevari visited the ROTC summer
camp.
Captain Meade of the regular
Army staff said that since the theft
was of government property, it has
been reported to the FBI as well as
to University officials and the
Security department.
No disturbances were reported
at either the Naval or Air Science
departments. Earlier in the year the
Army ROTC had minor problems
with vandals squirting glue in door
locks.
