Vouching Committee
Assists 100 Students

More than 100 students availed
themselves of the services of the
newly formed Vouching
Committee and were admitted to
the VMI gave Saturday in spite of
forgotten or defective ID cards.

Bob Berry, chairman of the
committee, reported yesterday that
the number was far above
expectations, but explained that
this was to a large extent a result of
the fact that many students had
failed to revalidate their last year's
cards by attaching the 1968-69
sticker.

Mr. Berry said these students
were not admitted to the game
until an employee of the
Committee had gotten their names.
He expressed the hope that this
Saturday there would be fewer
students and shorter lines using the
Committee's service, since these
students who had not validated
their cards were expected to do so
this week.

The Vouching Committee was
created this fall as an arm of the
Judiciary Committee. Steve
Hopson, chairman of the Judiciary
Committee, said that he had had
several complaints about the long
lines and the fact that many
students were not able to get in
until after the second quarter had
begun.

When asked if more than one
person could be stationed by the
student gate in order to speed up
the process. Hopson said this was
impossible at the present time since
the Committee did not have enough
funds at its disposal to pay more
than one student employee.

He added, however, that the
Committee had printed forms
which will be used and which are
expected to help expedite the
procedure, since the person on duty
will no longer go through the
time-consuming process of writing
down all names, but will merely be
collecting the forms.
