Three Employees Named
To Non-Discrimination Posts

Three members of the staff of
the University were named this
summer to consult with persons
who may have complaints of
possible discrimination in
employment at the University.

Edgar F. Shannon Jr., President
of the University, noted in making
the announcement that each of the
three equal opportunity officers
will handle any complaints from his
specific area of the University and
report findings to Paul J. Jenkins,
director of personnel. Mr. Jenkins
will report to President Shannon
the any cases in which the
complainant is not satisfied with
the decision of the personnel
director.

The University established a
procedure three years ago whereby
employees alleging discrimination
were authorized to consult directly
with the University personnel
director at times convenient to
them.

"It now appears," Mr.
said in a statement to all employees
"that this program can continue
most effectively" if additional
personnel at strategic locations in
the University are available to
consult with persons who have
complaints possibly related to
discrimination.

The equal opportunity officers
are:

Alex H. Sawyer, assistant
director of the University Hospital,
who will handle all complaints that
relate to employment
discrimination in the Medical
Center; W. Calvin Phillips, executive
assistant to the associate provost
for research, who will investigate
complaints from all other areas of
the University? and A. Arnold
Nunnery, assistant director of
personnel, who will handle
complaints regarding applicants for
employment.
