News Columnist Kilpatrick To Speak

Former Richmond News
Leader editor James Jackson
Kilpatrick will speak to the
Jefferson Society Friday at 8
p.m. in Jefferson Hall on the
West Range. Mr. Kilpatrick is
now a nationally syndicated
columnist and commentator
for WTOP news in Washington.
The public is invited to his
speech.

YES Elects Roble

First-year law student
Daniel T. Roble has been
chosen to head the Youth
Summer Employment (YES)
job program beginning May 15.

Last summer the
four-year-old program placed
more than 600 teenagers in
jobs. According to Robert
Dwoskin of the YES Board of
Directors, the program found
positions for three-fourths of
last year's applicants and
hopes to place all applicants
this year.

Employers desiring to use
the service before May 15
should contact Mr. Dwoskin
at 1224 W. Main St. The YES
office, located at 203 Main St.
will open May 15.

Open House

President and Mrs. Edgar F.
Shannon will hold their annual
Open House Thursday at 4:30
p.m. on Carr's Hill. All
students and their wives and
children are invited.

Carr's Hill gardens will be
open for public tours
tomorrow in recognition of
Garden Week.

Spring Tour

The Fourth Annual Spring
Tour Program sponsored by
the Office of Admissions is in
process and will continue until
May 4.

"Spring Tour 1973" is one
of a series of programs to
augment the University's
regular recruitment efforts
while at the same time
strengthening its relationship
with secondary schools
throughout the state.

The Spring Tours are
specifically aimed at black and
other minority group high
school students.

The program includes a tour
of the Grounds and student
discussion with admissions
officers and faculty.

Swim Passes

The Albemarle County
Parks and Recreation
Department will sell season
swim passes to Chris Greene
Lake and Mint Springs Valley.

Passes are available at the
Parks Department County
Office Building, room 102. The
passes which cost $25 for a
family of four and $35 for a
family of five will admit two
parents and children under 19
years old.

Memorial Service

There will be a
memorial service for Houston
Beaumont tonight at 6:30 p.m.
at Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity
house, 510 Rugby Road.

Policeman Resigns

City police officer J. M.
Hensley, 27, resigned from the
police force last week after
being suspended for an alleged
attack on Ronald W.
Greenfield, 17, who is being
held in the city jail for the
murder of a University co-ed
last November.

Mr. Hensley was offered
reinstatement after the
incident, but resigned to secure
other employment.

Police Chief , John deK.
Bowen also had suspended and
charged with assault police
officer R.L. Rhoades, 30, who
is free on $100 property bond.

Mr. Rhoades' trial is
tentatively set for April 30.

Adolescent Book

Education Prof. Richard A.
Meade is the editor of
"Literature for Adolescents:
Selection and Use" recently
published by the Charles E.
Merrill Company.

The book is based on the
theory that adolescents read
with greatest interest novels,
poems, essays and other
literary pieces which are
selected for content and
readability suited to them.

Bike Races

The University Union needs
volunteers to monitor course
traffic during the bicycle races
to be held this Saturday during
Happy Day. Volunteers will be
guaranteed the best viewing
spots on the course and free
refreshments during the race.
Anyone interested in
supervising or participating in
the races should call the Union
office at 924-3286.

Political Caucus

The Seventh District
Women's Political Caucus will
meet this Saturday from 2 to 4
p.m. at 1908 Lewis Mountain
Rd. to discuss the organization
of committees to work on
women's rights.

Sex stereotyping in the
schools, the Equal Rights
Amendment, employment
discrimination, abortion and
birth control and women
candidates will be discussed.
