Leatherbury To Act As Head
Of Upperclass Dorm Program

By CINDI STUART

Third-year Student Linda
Leatherbury has been selected
to chair next year's Upper-class
Counseling Program, it
was officially announced
today.

The main responsibility of
this program, according to
Shelly Zablow, the present
chairman, is to coordinate the
various Upperclass residences,
including the Lawn, Monroe
Hill, Mary Munford, McKim,
and the coed Alderman dorms.

Counselors Work Closely

Although independent from
the first-year dorm program,
the Upperclass counselors work
closely with it.

Explaining why she ran for
the position, Miss Leatherbury
said she has finished her

academic goal by completing
the requirements for her
pre-med major and
participating in independent
study programs through
working at the Children's
Rehabilitation Center.

"I wanted to spend my time
and energy in a program to
round out my four years here.
I chose this one because I
enjoy interacting with
students."

Miss Leatherbury will serve
as the link between the
Student Affairs Office, the
Committee on the Residential
Staff and the Executive
committee, composed of senior
residents. She is presently a
senior resident in Tuttle House.

Improves Communication

The need for improved
communication between the
residential governmental
organizations of each dorm and
the residential staff is a
foremost concern of Miss
Leatherbury. "We want
students to have a bigger say in
the Upperclass program."

As chairman of the
program, Miss Leatherbury also
plans to keep in close contact
with the executive cabinet,
composed of the chairmen of
dormitory government
councils.

Reforming the Judiciary
Committee and keeping the
Glass Hat open for longer
hours are among her other
concerns.

The selection process for
Counseling Program Chairman
is initiated by
recommendations from the
Upperclass executive
committee to the Committee
on Residential Staff.

The latter, consisting of the
deans of student affairs, the
director of housing, faculty
deans and the chairmen of the
first year and upperclass
counseling programs, conducts
interviews and makes the final
decision.

According to Mr. Zablow,
one of the first obligations of
the new chairman will be to
organize the new orientation
for next year's counselors who
are being selected now
