Televised Drug Series
By DOROTHY YOUNG
The University's School of
Continuing Education, in
conjunction with Cable Vision,
has begun a series of programs
on "Drug Use and Abuse"
extending over a period of 16
weeks.
The half-hour programs
appear on Channel 10 at 3:30
and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and
Thursdays, and a different one
is presented each week.
The first programs are
content-oriented, developing
legal, pharmacological,
political, and social aspects of
drug abuse and and the
psychology of drugs. These
include experiments with
animals and narcotics and
explanations of the effects of
stimulants and depressants.
Later shows will involve
community projects and
rehabilitation and information
centers throughout Virginia.
The first program was last
week.
The principal sponsors and
contributors are University
professors Drs. John Buckman,
R. H. Gourley, Peter
Hackett, Thomas Westfall, and
Charles Whitebread. A few of
these were involved in the
University's former Education
132 Drug Use and Abuse
course which was canceled.
