Council to Distribute 'Supersound'
For Women Students' Protection

Supersound, advice which
emits a long loud blast to ward
off potential assailants, will be
made available at a cost of 75
cents each to all women
students beginning in the fall.

The device, designed to
alert bystanders of an
individual's emergency will not
be sold to male students and
only one device will be sold to
each woman.

Additional horns will be
sold to women only if it can be
documented that the first was
properly used or unavoidably
lost. Extra devices will be
available in Council Offices,
4th floor Newcomb Hall.

Council President Larry
Sabato said "The device is easy
to operate and can't backfire
like mace," although it will
cause internal damage if aimed
directly toward the ear.

The horn sells for $2.98
retail, but because of $1500
given by the Alumni
Association and the
cooperation of Dynamics Inc.,
the manufacturers of the
device, it will be available at a
considerably reduced price.

The Alumni Association agreed
to donate the funds last
Wednesday, Mr. Sabato said.

The Resident Staff will
demonstrate the horn to
dormitory residents in the fall
and the University Police will
be oriented in July.
