Police Summoned To Rugby Rd.
During Easter's Weekend Parties

By CINDI STUART

Last weekend's Easters'
parties kept city police busy in
the Rugby Road fraternity
area.

First-year College student
Rosemary Cooney was hit by a
car at the intersection of
Rugby Rd. and Gordon Ave.
Saturday night, and suffered
several broken toes and an
injured ankle, according to the
city police. No arrests have
been made.

City police were called to
the Rugby Rd.-Grady Ave. area
Sunday afternoon in response
to Charlottesville citizens'
complaints of "excessive
noise" and "disorderly
conduct."

A police spokesman said
that arrest warrants for persons
who may have been responsible
have not been served because
they were "improperly
obtained." It will not be
known until later this week
whether any arrests will be
made.

Dean of Students Robert T.
Canevari called in several
students yesterday in
connection with incidents
Sunday which allegedly
involved physical abuse,
beating on cars and threatening
the health of others.

Students must understand
that people in the area have
some rights, too," Mr. Canevari
said.

Some of the persons
summoned will be referred to
the Judiciary Committee for
further action.
