Howard To Serve
On Award Committee

By BOB HUSBANDS

Law School President Linda
G. Howard has been selected
by former First Lady Mrs.
Lyndon Baines Johnson to
serve on a special committee to
determine the recipient of the
Zale Award.

The Zale Award is a grant of
$25,000 to an outstanding
American in a selected field.

The specific field is determined
annually. Some of the fields
considered include civil rights,
ecology, and medical research.

The Zale Foundation, which
distributes the grant, was
organized twenty years ago by
the Zale jewelers of Chicago.

The Committee is comprised
of ten members and is
co-chaired by Mrs. Johnson
and Columbia University
President William McGill. The
Johnsons were asked by the
Zale Foundation to pick
outstanding Americans to serve
on the committee.

Other members on the
selection committee include
former Chief Justice Earl
Warren; Justice Thurgood
Marshall; Arthur Krim,
President of United Artists;
and Mark Ward, a senior at
Stanford University. Also
serving on the committee are
Katherine Graham, Publisher
of the Washington Post; George
Brown, President of the
Texas-based Brown and Root
Company; and a medical
scientist on the President's
council for cancer research.
