Tech Picks Nixon

In a mock election held Oct.
25 at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University,
President Richard M. Nixon
defeated his Democratic
opponent Sen. George S.
McGovern.

Out of the 6,662
participating, 4,391 voted for
President Nixon, 1,910 voted
for Sen. McGovern, 60 for the
American Party and 57 for the
Socialist-Labor Party
candidate.

In the Virginia senatorial
race, William B. Spong Jr., the
Democratic incumbent
defeated Eighth District
Republican Congressman
William L. Scott on a vote of
2,807 to 1,919.

Of the participating voters,
83 per cent were registered to
vote in this year's election.

Council Candidates

All first year Engineering
students interested in running
for a position as a
representative to the
Engineering Council must bring
their petitions to the Student
Council Office on Wednesday
at 4 p.m., at which time a
meeting will be held to discuss
campaign and election
procedures.

Six positions are open on the
Council. In order to run, a
student must have at least 25
names on his petition.

Bike Trip Slide Show

Lloyd Sumner, well-known
computer artist, will present a
slide show on the first phase of
his bicycle trip around the
world, today at 8 p.m. in the
Chemistry Building
Auditorium.

A highlight of the program
will be a slide show of some of
the less accessible regions of
the United States, including
Mt. McKinley, the Grand
Canyon, Mt. Hood, and Death
Valley.

The presentation is
sponsored by the Outing Club
and donations are 75 cents.

Anderson Speaks

Vice-Presidential candidate
for the American Party,
Thomas Jefferson Anderson,
will speak at the University
tomorrow, at 8 p.m., in Gilmer
Hall Auditorium.

As the running mate of John
C. Schmitz, Mr. Anderson will
discuss the views held by
themselves and the American
Party.

The public is invited and
admission is free.

Anti-ZPG Talk

John Ascher of the National
Caucus of Labor Committee
(NCLC), who has charged the
Zero Population Growth (ZPG)
movement with threatening to
have the welfare population of
the working class "scrapped,"
will speak here tomorrow night
on "Zero Growth - Threat to
the Working Class."

Mr. Ascher's talk will begin
at 8 p.m. in room 4A of
Newcomb Hall.
