Presentation
To Highlight
Law Weekend

By SUZY LAWSON

The presentation of a restored portrait
of former law dean William Minor Lile
will highlight the 15th annual Law
Alumni Day weekend.

Approximately 500 Law School
alumni are expected to attend ceremonies
Friday and Saturday. A lecture by the
Hon. Charles D. Breitel of the New York
Court of Appeals will be the featured
event of the weekend.

Other activities include the Lile Moot
Court Competition, class reunion dinners,
a picnic and the annual "partnership
meeting" in which alumni have a chance
to catch up on the operations of the law
school.

Dean Lile's portrait has hung in the
law library since it was painted in the
1930's. It has been restored through the
efforts of Mrs. Beverly D. Tucker.

The presentation of the portrait to the
law school will take place in ceremonies
at 9:50 a.m. Saturday. Law Professor
Emeritus T. Munford Boyd, a former
student of Mr. Lile, will speak at the
ceremonies.

Early Saturday morning, the law
school alumni association will hold a
business meeting. Alumni president
George M. Cochran, Justice of the
Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, will
preside over the meeting.

The Lile Moot Court Competition, to
begin at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Cabell
Hall, will be judged by Judges Breital,
Potter Stewart of the U.S. Supreme Court
and John Minor Wisdom of the U.S. Fifth
Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Lile Moot Court Competition
begins as part of the first year writing
program in the Law School. After this
initial argument the student teams are
given the option of continuing with the
competition.

This contest takes place during the
three years of Law School, with the final
round taking place between the two
remaining teams in the spring of their
third year.
