News-In-Brief

U.G.F. Raises $59,518

The University community collected
$59,518 in the recently completed
United Givers Fund campaign. This total
exceeded the University's goal of
$58,000.

The fund drive this year conducted
jointly by John Becker, the executive
assistant of the Physics Department, who
was the chairman of the University
division, and John Stacey, the Director of
the Medical Center, who headed the
Medical Center division.

The United Givers Fund campaign is
an annual fund-raising effort for
twenty-three agencies. These funds help
provide needed services in the
Charlottesville-Albemarle community.

Concert Tickets

Tickets for tonight's rock concert with
"The Faces" are almost sold out. If
students are interested in going to see the
bands, they should pick up tickets before
arriving at University Hall.

Skiing Class

The Physical Education Department,
in cooperation with Bryce's Ski Resort, is
planning a class in skiing for the first
eight weeks of second semester.

Four trips are scheduled to the resort,
starting Monday, February 7, at 11 a.m.
and continuing each Monday until
completed.

Also, there will be four night sessions
starting Thursday, February 3, and
continuing for four weeks. The class will
last only four weeks, but because of the
number of hours involved, will count as a
full eight weeks credit.

Travel will be by charter bus. The fee
for the entire package which includes the
bus ride, slope fee, rented equipment, and
skiing instruction is $32.20. For students
with their own equipment, the cost will
be $29.20.

78 students will be accepted on a first
come first serve basis. Students must
register for Physical Education, Section
13, and must pay the total fee when they
sign up. Students with any questions
should go by room 17, Memorial Gym.

Physics Seminar

"Light Scattering from Solid and
Liquid Helium" will be the topic of a
speech by C. Surko of the Bell
Laboratories. The address will be given on
Wednesday, December 15, at 3:30 p.m. in
room 204 of the Physics Building.
