Alumni Strive
For Improved
Student Image

In an effort to change its image, the
Alumni Association has instituted various
programs of financial aid for students and
has also organized several meetings of
alumni and student leaders.

"We want the student body to know
that the association is not primarily
concerned with social functions before
football games," stated Angus MacAulay,
assistant director of the association.

In order to provide financial aid for
students, the association has borrowed
$300,000 in bank loans which they have
offered to students at an interest rate
below the normal lending rate.

"The loan program is mainly for
graduating students from the college and
the graduate schools," Mr. MacAulay
remarked. He continued to say that most
of the loans are used by students for
tuition and living costs.

Students who apply for the loans are
screened by the Office of Financial Aid
who then make recommendations to the
association, according to Mr. MacAulay.

He also mentioned several student
organizations, such as the Student
Council and the Honor Committee, which
receive donations from the association.

Approximately 160 students have
taken part in informal discussions with
Gilbert Sullivan, director of the
association, and other alumni about
current problems confronting the
University.

"We would like to improve
communications with student leaders
who we hope will influence the
community," Mr. MacAulay concluded.
