Security To Hold Talks

Two weekend conferences between
members of the University community and law
enforcement officers will take place in the next
two months to improve relations between
students and police officers.

A grant of nearly $6,000 made by the
Virginia Council on Criminal Justice to the
University will pay for the two conferences.
The University received the grant this week for
prevention and control of civil disorders.

W. Wade Bromwell, Director of University
Security, said the conferences will take place
"to develop a better working relationship
between students and law enforcement
officers."

Each conference will consist of group
workshops and informal discussions between
students, faculty, administrators, and Security
officers.

Mr. Bromwell said that the Security
Department will invite students who represent a
cross-section of University opinions and
interests.

The workshops will take place at Graves
Mountain Lodge in Madison County, one at the
end of this month, and the other in late
November.

A similar conference took place in July.
Although the students attending did not
represent a cross-section of the University, Mr.
Bromwell said he was pleased with the results.
