New Director Leads University Development

Richard L. Godine, a Charlottesville
business executive, has been appointed
director of University development at the
University, Mr. Godine graduated from
the University in 1953. He will take
office this spring.

Edwin M. Crawford, University vice
president for public affairs, said that Mr.
Godine "will be responsible for
conducting a University-wide
development program and for coordinating the
activities of the development office with efforts
of all other organizations that raise funds on
behalf of the University."

Mr. Crawford added that "Mr. Godine's
experience in banking and finance and his
longtime interest in alumni activities of the
University equip him well for this new
important office."

Over the last 11 years Mr. Godine has been a
partner in Godine, Nesbit, and Company, an
insurance brokerage firm specializing in bank
fringe benefit programs. He is also a director of
the Jefferson National Bank in Lynchburg and
a former director of the Thomas Jefferson
Corp, here.

When he attended the University, Mr.
Godine played on the 1952 national
championship lacrosse team and was on the
South All-Star and All-American lacrosse teams
in 1952. After earning his undergraduate degree
in economics, Mr. Godine served in the army
for two years after which he entered the
insurance business in Baltimore, Md.

A life member of the University Alumni
Association, Mr. Godine became president of
the Maryland Chapter of the Alumni
Association in 1960. He is also a member of the
Student Aid Foundation.
