German Department Offers
New Approach For Courses

Seeking to overcome the widespread distaste
for foreign language courses, the German
Department has initiated two new courses which
are designed to encourage those students who
have completed their language requirements to
continue their study of German.

New Concept For Languages

The new courses are German 9 and 10 and
are offered on a pass-fail basis only. The more
enticing aspects of these courses are that there
are no outside assignments or homework and
no tests or quizzes are given although there is a
final exam.

The course work consists primarily of in
class readings in German and discussion on the
works covered, as well as related subjects which
may arise. Although all discussion and reading
is done in German, Associate Professor
Frederick Lehmeyer stressed that the course
this semester at least had been such that
students have been able to overcome the usual
shyness of speaking another language due to the
relaxed attitude of the class.

Mr. Lehmeyer pointed out that these
courses have not been listed in the catalogue,
and any students interested should contact the
German Department or add the course
following registration.
