Featherstone Gets
Alderman Post
Alan Featherstone, Richard Hickman,
and Doug Golden were elected to the
cabinet of the Alderman Road Legislative
Council on Monday night. The three new
officers, who won by slim margins in the
dormitory-wide elections, ran together on
an informal ticket against Jim Robinson,
Ben Shaw, and Sheldon Price.
Out of 456 ballots cast, which represents
more than two-thirds participation in the
Alderman Road dormitories, Mr. Featherstone
received 50.2′. Mr. Hickman received 57%, and
Mr. Golden received 51.2′: of the vote.
In the elections this year, issues rather than
personalities weighed heavily in the contest. Mr.
Robinson and Mr. Shaw had been running on a
platform based primarily on the refrigerator
issue, hoping to force the Acting Director of
Housing, Mr. Ralph Main, into calling a veto
committee.
The three new officers, stating that such
efforts would be unsuccessful and would
detract the Alderman Council's attention from
other issues, campaigned for a more restrained
policy towards the Housing Office.
President-elect Alan Featherstone has commented
that the Council should concern itself
with more productive goals.
Vice-President Richard Hickman, who is
Chairman of the Alderman Social Committee,
has already begun planning for a dance with the
University Union on IFC Weekend, March
20-21.
